Enhanced Bee-Line Benefit Provides More Trips and Year-Round Access

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins announced the expansion of the Bee-Line Bus System’s Student OMNY program, providing eligible students with more flexibility to travel throughout the County while making public transportation more accessible for families.
The enhanced program now provides eligible students with four rides per day, seven days a week and extends the benefit throughout the entire year, including the summer months. The improvements represent the first expansion of the County’s student transit program since 2015 and better reflect how students travel today for school, jobs, internships, extracurricular activities and other educational opportunities. Student OMNY cards continue to be distributed through participating school districts that opt into the program, and districts can further reduce the cost for students if they choose.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “Students today are balancing more responsibilities than ever before and reliable transportation plays a critical role in helping them succeed. Whether they’re traveling to school, a summer job, an internship, athletic practice or a community program, this expanded Student OMNY benefit gives them greater freedom to get where they need to go while easing transportation costs for families. It’s an investment in the success of our young people.”
Deputy County Executive Joan McDonald said: “Transportation should never be a barrier to education or opportunity. Expanding the Student OMNY program recognizes that students’ lives extend beyond the classroom. It ensures they have affordable access to the places that help them learn and prepare for the future. This enhancement reflects Westchester County’s continued commitment to supporting students and their families.”
Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Vedat Gashi said: “Reliable, affordable transportation opens doors for young people. Expanding the student OMNY benefit gives students greater access to school, jobs and opportunities throughout Westchester. It also helps make transportation more affordable for families. The Board is proud to support this practical investment in our students and their futures.”
Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation Commissioner Hugh Greechan said: “The Bee-Line Bus System serves as a lifeline for thousands of students every day. Expanding the Student OMNY program ensures our service better matches the way students travel by providing more flexibility and year-round access. These enhancements build on our commitment to delivering reliable public transportation that meets the evolving needs of Westchester residents.”
Superintendent for the Tarrytown Union Free School District Ray Sanchez said: “Access to reliable transportation is an important part of creating opportunity for our students. This expansion gives young people greater flexibility to get to school, work, athletics, extracurricular activities, and other experiences that help them learn, grow, and prepare for their futures. For school districts across Westchester County, this is a meaningful investment in student success and in removing barriers that can prevent students from fully participating in all that our schools and communities have to offer.”
The expanded Student OMNY program reflects Westchester County’s continued investment in making public transportation more accessible, convenient and responsive to students’ needs. By increasing trip availability and extending the benefit year-round, the County is helping students remain connected to educational, professional and recreational opportunities in every season.
The Student OMNY card continues to provide significant savings over regular Bee-Line fares, with the monthly cost now based on a four-week period at $70. Students are expected to tap their Student OMNY card every time they board, helping support transit operations and preserving the integrity of the program for everyone.
